About us

FORATOM is the Brussels-based trade association for the nuclear energy industry in Europe. FORATOM acts as the voice of the European nuclear industry in energy policy discussions with EU Institutions and other key stakeholders. The membership of FORATOM is made up of 15 national nuclear associations representing nearly 3,000 firms. The key topics which we deal with include:

  •     EU energy policy
  •     Sustainability policy
  •     Security of energy supply
  •     Economics of nuclear
  •     Nuclear decommissioning and radioactive waste management
  •     Nuclear innovation, research and development

Profile expected

  • Master’s degree in technical science and / or graduated engineer. Knowledge / background on nuclear technology is essential;
  • Knowledge of nuclear industry and supply chain challenges and opportunities would be an asset;
  • Awareness of national and European nuclear regulatory regimes, stakeholders and nexus with industry requirements would be an asset;
  • Awareness of existing, new build and future nuclear technologies would be an asset;
  • Excellent analytical skills and the ability to assimilate the various aspects of an issue rapidly;
  • Ability to transform technical input into political messages and adapt to the audience;
  • Talent in negotiation and brokering compromises reflecting the general interest of all businesses on sensitive issues;
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet objectives within tight deadlines;
  • Good networking and interpersonal skills;
  • Excellent spoken and written communication skills in English. A good knowledge of a second/third European language is an asset;
  • A pro-active and dynamic personality, with team spirit but also autonomous in his/her work, multitask, well-organised, flexible;
  • Strong organisation, prioritisation and time-management skills;
  • Having the right to live and work in Belgium without a work permit.

Key responsibilities and main tasks

  • Monitoring EU initiatives in the areas of nuclear R&D and technology and innovation.
  • Conducting analysis; identifying trends which are important for the nuclear industry and possible opportunities for innovation such as sector coupling of nuclear technologies or non-energy applications
  • Analysis of EU strategies and reports which have a potential nuclear industry/technology dimension;
  • Managing working groups, including IR&D , Supply Chain Optimisation, Management Systems and contribution / participation to other nuclear technology workstreams.
  • Drafting position papers, briefings, speeches and presentations;
  • Drafting strategic proposals to establish new industry collaboration initiatives, projects, roadmaps and guidelines.
  • Represent FORATOM in industry, EU and international initiatives and projects such as EU SET Plan, SNETP, Horizon Europe/Euratom projects and IAEA technical meetings/CRPs
  • Development of strategic actions and policy recommendations (e.g. innovative reactors, advanced, SMR, Micro, modernization programs /LTO, sector coupling, H2 production, digitalization, advanced manufacturing, , bridging innovation to market…)
  • Building and maintaining contacts with a wide range of stakeholders including EU institutions (European Commission, European Parliament, Council), R&I and industrial fora/representatives, international bodies (IAEA, OECD-NEA, GIF)
